The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Quality Technician opportunity, you will have:
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a quality control role; we also will consider recent grads from a relevant science or technology program
  • Basic computer skills with MS Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Good math skills, including understanding of basic statistical concepts and unit conversions (English/Metric)
  • Knowledge of calibrating test equipment
Top candidates also will have at least one of the following:
  • Hands-on experience working in a lab environment, performing physical and chemical testing for the release of manufactured products
  • Experience with quality systems
  • Knowledge of requirements needed for a certified environmental system
  • Experience in an ISO certified quality system, ideally as an internal auditor
  • ISO or TS certification
  • Experience with polymeric materials / film

You will train, during the first three months, on the day shift, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. After that you will work nights on a 2-2-3 schedule. In this schedule you'll work 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next week, with 2 days on, 2 days off and then 3 days on, 3 days off. This means you will have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off every other weekend. All shifts will run from 6 PM to 6 AM. The manufacturing facility and QC Lab run 24/7, so we'll look to you to be flexible if shift rotation is necessary.

You also will need to be able to life 50 pounds on occasion, but the role does not involve a good deal of physical work.

The Role

Reporting to the Quality Supervisor, you will join a team that is growing to 12 Quality Technicians. The team is responsible for performing all duties associated with product quality testing in plastic separator manufacturing. On each shift you will be responsible for maintaining the safe and secure operation of the quality lab.

You'll spend about 75% of your time in the lab, and some testing is performed on the manufacturing floor. You'll have individual responsibilities and also contribute as a team member. Testing covers film shrinkage, tensile strength, thickness and other parameters, and involves using calipers, scales, gauge blocks and specialized equipment. In general you will support the plant in aligning Celgard systems and processes to automotive requirements; specifically in the product quality testing lab. You'll also assist the quality team in maintaining and performing other quality-related duties in the manufacturing area that directly support the on-going success of the value stream. More specifically, you will:
  • Perform standard and/or non-routine QC tests including physical and chemical testing
  • Maintain calibration status of equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of data and observations (paper and electronic records)
  • Prepare and verify accuracy of data certificates for product shipments (COA); this will include maintaining QC document control (test procedures, calibration procedures, forms, etc.)
  • Collaborate and demonstrate good communication with team members both within the department and cross-functionally; participate on cross-functional teams and sometimes lead meetings
  • Communicate via telephone and e-mail in a friendly and professional manner
  • Participate in employee involvement activities and ISO 9000 / TS16949 initiatives.
  • Practice excellent safety and environmentally sound habits; plan safety into all work activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment that meets facility standards; participate in 5S activities; keep the quality lab organized and “tour ready” at all times
  • Present to small groups and participate in customer and visitor tours of the lab and facility
  • Train others (new and current employees) as needed.
  • Ensure breaks and lunches are taken and time is not abused.
  • Maintain a professional and productive relationship with management & co-workers.
  • Utilize KPI's (key performance indicators) to gauge performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel from other departments to meet objectives.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to drive and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work in a high performance, team-centered work environment to support overall plant goals.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing principles to ensure continual improvement.
