The Requirements

This is an ideal role for a strong general accountant, preferably with Public experience, to step up to a cost accounting role; or for a cost accountant with some experience under his/her belt to take on a complex, multi-plant position.

To meet the basic qualification for this role you must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the role of Cost Accountant, you also should have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 1 to 3 years of cost accounting experience or 1 to 3 years of experience and demonstrated success in a general accounting role within a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with standard costing, absorption and manufacturing variance reporting required
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with large databases, arrays, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc. are required; you must be able to import data, create reports, perform ad hoc work, etc. in Excel, but there is onsite expertise to help with high level needs, such as Macros
  • Proficiency with other Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, etc.)
Preferred, but not required:
  • Public experience is highly preferred

In addition to these requirements, you must be willing to travel to the Concord plant regularly, sometimes commuting directly there in the morning. The majority of your time, however, will be spent in Charlotte.

The team works a standard Monday through Friday shift, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. While extra time is required on occasion, especially during close, it is minimal. We enjoy great work/life balance!

The Role

Reporting to the Cost Accounting Manager, as Cost Accountant, you will be the 3rd member of a talented team of cost accountants. You will be seated in our Charlotte manufacturing plant where you can readily interact with plant personnel, and travel regularly to our Concord plant where you will do the same. To be effective in your role, it will be important to build strong business relationships across functions within both plants. 

Cost Accountant is a critical role in the ongoing success of the Celgard organization. In this role, you will help ensure that our costs are properly recorded and work to identify opportunities for cost savings. Central to your success will be your ability to effectively serve as a liaison between Manufacturing and Finance. It will be your mission to identify and extrapolate information critical to informed decision making with the goal of helping Operations run the plants as efficiently as possible. 

Your specific responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the DMC standards, reviewing weekly variances/yields and reporting results to site managers and Plant Controller   
  • Acting as primary liaison between the manufacturing plants and the finance function

  • Accounting for inventory reserves, manufacturing variance capitalization and full absorption
  • Serving as primary financial counsel to the plant manager regarding operational issues 
  • Working with manufacturing personnel to identify areas to manage and reduce costs and implementing process improvements
  • Managing standard cost roll and analysis of materials, work center rates and production changes
  • Ensuring the cycle counts are performed properly and in accordance with policy
  • Supporting, maintaining, and updating SOX internal controls for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Working as an effective member in a high performance, team-centered work environment to support overall plant goals
  • Participating on cross-functional continuous improvement teams
