Celgard is a recognized global leader in developing, manufacturing, and marketing battery separators that are used in high performance lithium battery applications. Celgard battery separators are polypropylene and/or polyethylene electrolytic membranes that offer excellent product uniformity, strength, chemical stability, and energy performance. We are expanding to increase production capacity to supply lithium battery manufacturers focused on the EDV industry (Electric Drive Vehicle) and we're helping realize the promise of a greener economy.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will provide direct support to a team of Manufacturing Process Engineers. As Process Engineering Technician, your duties will include:

  • Learning Celgard manufacturing and converting processes to identify best practices based on process data, and facilitate knowledge transfer necessary to achieve manufacturing goals related to quality, yield & utilization.
  • Conducting experiments (trials) that may investigate new technology, production methods, process optimization, alternative process concepts, process/product improvements or reproducibility trials.
  • Performing data analysis in support of ad-hoc and standing requests.
  • Documenting observations, results, conclusions, and prepare written and oral reports.
  • Developing programs, methodologies, and files for analyzing and presenting data.

  • Working with other groups to complete tasks and projects (i.e. Manufacturing, Maintenance, Technical Service, Sales, Battery and Quality Lab personnel).
  • Collaborating and demonstrating good communication with team members both within the department and cross-functionally to meet objectives; participate on cross-functional teams; lead meetings.
  • Practicing excellent safety and environmentally sound habits, planning safety into all work activities.
  • Training others (new and current employees) as needed.
  • Utilizing KPI's (key performance indicators) to gauge performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Driving and supporting continuous improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing principles.
  • Working in a high performance, team-centered work environment to support overall plant goals.
  • Keeping all Celgard information CONFIDENTIAL.

The Requirements

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • A college degree in a technical field (preferred). If no degree, then must have relevant college level courses and/or work experience in the field of engineering, sciences or mathematics.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience demonstrating required skills or college work demonstrating required skills through degree program.
  • Ability to use advanced Excel features and techniques, experience with Minitab is a plus.

  • Experience in applying analytical skills and statistical methods, transforming raw data into technical conclusions and written technical summaries.
  • Ability to plan and conduct scientific trials including data collection and analysis.
  • Time management skills, and comfort in a team-based, multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Individual initiative, and a healthy sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work on a high performing team creating an environment where open and honest communication is the norm.
