Job Duties:
The Product Development Polymer Scientist/Engineer will hold a key position in Celgard's base film development team. Responsibilities include:
- Develop future microporous film technologies and concepts for the Li-battery industry.
- Work collaboratively with other technical staff to resolve issues as they may arise.
- Create, manage, and execute on product development plans and trials to drive prototypes through the technical commercialization process.
- Responsible for evaluation and reporting on trial programs at lab, pilot, and production scales, in order to meet standards and troubleshoot any issues through root cause analysis.
- Interact directly with external customers and our internal sales and technical service staff to thoroughly understand customer requirements in order to drive new product developments.
- Interact with production, engineering, and other internal staff to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of our products.
- Must follow all production, safety, and standard operating procedures required to do work.
- Effectively lead projects to ensure the right technical resources are utilized and yields on time completion of the project, working along side the technicians.
- Stay abreast of competitive market activities, products, and technical data.
- Analyze developmental approaches for freedom to operate and Patentability against the background of prior art.
- Maintain a safe and organized, incident-free, working environment
Education:
- PhD in Polymer Science & Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, or in Chemical Engineering - OR – Master’s degree in same fields with a minimum of 3 years of experience in plastics, packaging, or related industries.
Experience:
- Experience with materials (plastics, polymers, additives) and polymer processing equipment
(Compounding, extrusion, converting processes).
- Able to work with a diverse team of individuals, both internal and external, across the globe.
- Strong team player; excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage numerous simultaneous projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Generates innovative and creative solutions that solve problems and meet project objectives.
- Self-motivated, innovative, disciplined, takes ownership of work, and detail-oriented.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Some travel required.
- Familiarity with structure / properties relationships of polyolefin and related polymers with regard to the design of multilayer film structures and the methods used for their characterization.
- Strong understanding of polymer converting processes including film extrusion, coating, and lamination is preferred.
