Job Title: Production Shift Supervisor
General Duties of the Job:
Join a team of Production Supervisors leading around-the-clock plant operations at our Concord, NC plant. Orchestrate the people, resources and processes on your shift to keep things safe and humming.
In this high-impact, hands-on role, you will report directly to the Production Manager and will supervise the activities and resources involved in the production of separator membrane in line with lean manufacturing principles and techniques. Your team of manufacturing technicians will look to you for leadership in safety, troubleshooting problems, maintaining a positive team-based atmosphere, and ensuring production and quality requirements for your shift.
In addition to the above, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading behavior-based safety initiatives for the shift; ensuring technicians plan safety into their daily routines and that safe work practices are followed.
- Planning, organizing, supervising and scheduling manpower, equipment and other resources within issued policies, procedures, guidelines and budgets.
- Assisting in hiring new team members and overseeing the on-boarding and on-the-job training for new and/or transferred employees.
- Assuring the most effective operation of the production process; utilizing key operating indicators for control of product cost, material usage, machine downtime, expenditure control and other shift functions.
- Performing employee performance management; overseeing training of the workforce, and tracking team member attendance.
- Providing leadership in identifying problems, troubleshooting, and solving issues affecting yield and equipment utilization.
- Maintaining and analyzing shift measures, conducting shift reporting, auditing ERP for accuracy and variance; conducting weekly and monthly variance investigations, maintaining and leading team in adherence to SOP's/SOC's (Standard Operating procedures/Standard Operating Conditions).
- Assuring consistent, equitable working relationships with all team members.
- Learning and utilizing company systems; facilitating continuous improvement; participating in and leading meetings both within the production function as well as cross-functionally; and developing management and technical skills to enhance plant performance.
- Working with fellow supervisors and non-exempt team members to provide proactive safety, housekeeping, and quality leadership, and to ensure achievement of plant goals.
- Providing leadership for Continuous Improvement efforts.
Qualifications Desired:
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
- BA/BS degree in management or a technical field.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, with a manufacturing or related background.
- Experience leading in a team-centered environment.
- Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong math skills and a solid mechanical aptitude.
- The ability to learn and use problem solving and decision making tools.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- The ability to build effective workplace relationships, motivate employees, and support employee development.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply safety principles in a manufacturing environment.
- The ability and willingness to work a 12-hour shift schedule.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or QS9000 operations and an understanding of lean manufacturing principles and 5S is a plus.
Excellent communication skills are also vital to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and support a high-performance operation and work culture.
