Technical Sales Representative
NC - Charlotte
Opportunity Snapshot
An award winning product line, double digit growth year after year, and scores of repeat customers... does it get any better than this?
If you have a good mix of technical expertise and sales savvy, it's time for you to take advantage of our situation and land the rewarding career you've been searching for. . .
We are Membrana, the world's largest supplier of microporous membranes for medical applications like dialysis, oxygenation, and plasma separation, and a major supplier of membrane products to the semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and photographic markets. In 1991, our Liqui-Cel product line was awarded the Kirkpatrick Achievement Award by Chemical Engineering Magazine for its innovative technology, and we've been taking the market by storm ever since.
As a Technical Sales Representative on our team, you'll help us continue and further build on this success as you take charge of one of our dynamic North American territories and proactively build out your portfolio.
Your Rewards
- Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and sales incentive plan (based on individual and group performance), you'll receive a generous benefits package that is more competitive than those offered by many of the larger Fortune 500 companies in this area.
- Ownership & autonomy -- you'll manage your territory like your own business -- including everything from forecasting to accounts receivable to establishing and evolving relationships -- and will be empowered with a great deal of authority to pursue your goals as you see fit.
- Visibility -- you'll report directly to the VP of our Liqui-Cel business and interface with many areas of our organization -- including R&D, Manufacturing, and Accounting -- which will provide you with a well-rounded understanding of our business, along with plenty of recognition for your achievements in this role.
- Great work environment -- you'll enjoy a highly collaborative atmosphere within an organization that remains very focused on its people throughout our continued growth.
Our Requirements
- BS in Engineering or Chemistry
- 2+ years experience selling technical products to technical customers
- Proven selling and negotiation skills
- Strong communication skills (including written, verbal, and listening skills, and the ability to write technical literature)
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Fluent English and excellent telephone skills
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
- No known allergies to urethanes or epoxies
- Ability to travel up to 35-50% as needed
- Valid US driver's license, and the ability to obtain a US passport or green card
Preferred, but not required:
- CRM experience
- Experience in filtration, water treatment, membranes, or pharmaceutical industry
- Foreign language skills and/or international experience
More About Your Role
Based in our Charlotte headquarters, you'll assume management of one of our North American territories and will primarily focus on selling our Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors products and prototypes. We generate hundreds of leads every quarter, and you'll proactively reach out to these companies, establish working relationships, and ascertain how our products can fulfill their needs.
Large projects may require several months to close, and you'll showcase your enduring ability to keep these leads warm and sales progressing. New prototype sales, on the other hand, can transpire in as little 24 hours, at which point you'll continue to follow up with these customers, assist in their product evaluations and determine if modifications need to be made, constantly massaging the relationship in an effort to secure future business.
Overall, your responsibilities in this role will include:
- Managing prospects and generating leads.
- Growing your accounts and maintaining customer relationships.
- Assisting with product implementation at the customer site and handling any technical issues.
- Forecasting sales and delivering results.
- Utilizing our software and your technical expertise to size systems and recommend appropriate solutions to customers.
- Writing technical briefs and support documentation for specific products.
- Gathering and consolidating intelligence from prospects and customers.
- Managing CRM entries and follow-up.
- Managing customer invoices and receivables.
Keys to Success
Your success in this role will require:
- Strong independent initiative -- your sales goals will be fairly aggressive, and we'll look to you to be highly proactive, self-motivated, and undaunted by awkward situations, proving that you are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve those goals with minimal assistance or oversight.
- Outstanding relationship development skills -- although our customers are very happy with our products and services overall, we don't allow ourselves to take advantage of that and instead constantly push to further enhance the relationship. You'll help us achieve this through honest, customer-focused interactions that speak to customer's level of technical knowledge (in general you'll be interfacing with Engineers, Chemists and Physicists) and add value to their operations.
- Technical problem solving skills -- you'll leverage your technical savvy and understanding of customer requirements to identify solutions that resolve their issues and truly match their needs. In addition, you'll provide the first line of technical support as you assist with prototype evaluations, system installations, and technical issues.
- Cooperative team player approach -- you'll contribute to our collaborative team environment, share your insights, back up your coworkers as needed, and work with our other sales talent to ensure uniformity of products and pricing. Similarly, you'll maintain a strong line of communication with our R&D and Manufacturing folks to ensure everyone is in the loop on emerging projects and new product developments.
- Flexibility -- you'll adjust your approach to effectively meet each customer's individual requirements, even when it means working off hours to accommodate them. You'll also remain adaptable to new territorial assignments, including expansion into international markets, as needed.
- Innovation -- you'll help improve our operations by introducing new ideas and best practices into our environment.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity, and you meet the required qualifications, we look forward to hearing from you.
